Josh McRoberts Will Return to Indianapolis
Mike Wells tracked down the former Dukie last night via text message and got Josh to divulge that he has agreed to a two-year deal at an undisclosed sum. (He sent a similar e-mail to the AP.) The deal hasn’t actually been inked yet, but this all comes as little surprise considering that Larry Bird has repeatedly stated his desire to retain the 22-year-old forward. Wells mentioned that McRoberts is out on the West Coast currently, so we can probably expect the paperwork to get done as soon as logistics allow.
In other news, McRoberts hurt his ankle last week during an Orlando Summer League game. I was watching at the time and it didn’t appear to be overly serious, but it presumably held him back a little in the following days. Hopefully, he’s back on track now, however, and continuing his summer training progress, which Wells is saying has included putting on some serious bulk.
Pacers strength and conditioning coach Shawne Windle has helped McRoberts put on between 15-20 pounds of muscle since the end of last season.
For a while now, Bird has been talking about how much he likes players from esteemed college programs. And he’s certainly been walking the walk over the past 12 months. Brandon Rush, Tyler Hansbrough, Roy Hibbert, Dahntay Jones, AJ Price and McRoberts hail from, respectively, Kansas, UNC, Georgetown, Duke, UConn, and Duke.
Now, if Bird could just find a way to add Rajon Rondo and Kevin Love to the mix, this team would soon be back on its way to contending for the Finals.
Josh McRoberts is back. Hopefully, so is his beard.
