Thank you sooooo much for this. I even appreciated your commentary. Very humorous. Reggie Miller's greatness was recognized much too late for my taste. In a business such as the NBA, where there so quick to push the next 20 p/pg scorer...I thought Reggie Miller deserved so much more credit than even the league was willing to shine upon him. No one handled themselves better than Reggie for being in that predicament and being the 2nd greatest Shooting guard for that era. I love him. He was an assasin....I just wished he had the opportunity to go see Chicago and MJ in the playoffs the way the Knicks did. Heck of a basketball player. I think even the great MJ said that he's(Reggie - yet he had a minimal set of offensive skills) the hardest player to guard..there's a youtube clip of Kobe saying the same thing. Awesome...god I miss Miller Time!!!

Very nostalgic post.

0:00.7 – Most people forget that this happened, but MJ catches the inbounds pass, elevates for three, double-clutches and shoots. The ball hits glass and then rattles around the rim for what, at the time, felt like ten minutes. It misses.

Seemed like hours that shot...never is in the highlights though.....

Many people will tell you this is the most famous push-off in professional basketball history, but there was another one in later 1980 with a gentlemen name Marcus Childerson. Nobody has ever heard about this but it's quite famous. Go to Marcus's website to read about it.

I remember watching this. In fact this was the first game I ever remember watching. I always wanted the Bulls to lose, not from any particular dislike but rather because I love the underdog.

Larry Bird is amazing.

Umm, I have to agree. MJ was the king of the uncalled push-off. Part of the reason that I loathe the man. One of the reasons I love this play, besides being an unrepetant bastard of a Pacers fan, is that Jordan got some of his own damn medicine.
Truehoop noted that Reggie celebrated alone, contributing it to some sort of nasty team politics. I argue otherwise - most of the Pacers weren't celebrating because they couldn't believe that the refs didn't call that one.

You all this the push off? Maybe you missed it but there is a slight more famous push...with MJ on the other end.

Sorry, Elijah. Wrote that past midnight and forgot about the Knicks. And I meant during his title streak, though, not the according-to-Hoyle 90s, so the Pistons one wasn't intended to apply. Apologies for the imprecision there and thanks for pointing out the error regarding 1992.

As for leukemia, the original joke ("One of my favorite players and co-St. John’s University grad Chris Mullin drills a straight-away three, and looks like he has leukemia while doing so") referenced the disease specifically and unnecessarily when I was only intending to say that Mully with a bald head looked like he had recently had chemotherapy. The punchline was him being hairless, not looking like he had leukemia. Thus, I changed it.
