Game #82 Recap: Yeah, About That

Washington Wizards 98 – Indiana Pacers 97

————–

In the last recap, I wrote this:

So do we wad up the previous 17 games and throw them in the trash?  Nope. We don’t. That all happened. It may not have been great for the franchise in terms of draft position. In fact, it almost certainly wasn’t.

But it had to have been good for these players individually — and collectively — on some level. It gave them some idea that they are (OK, at least some of them are) legitimate NBA players. And while last night’s game was an obvious reminder that they aren’t great NBA players, hey, at least it wasn’t the last game of the season.

They will have one more opportunity to wash that terrible taste out of their mouths and go into the Summer with some semblance of confidence that this team, while by no means good, may not be as bad as they were for the first four months of the season.

That doesn’t say a lot, no … But it does say something.

Bring on the Wizards.

I may have been wrong about all or part of that.

Tombstone

This was fun. Let’s do this again next year.

just read rumors about selling the pacers and relocating the team.
i think its about time to just let them go.
bird is intent on resigning o brien who has been a bad coach for every tem hes coached, i was bummed when he was hired, and none of our players are very good either, including granger, he,s
good on a bad team. no good draft picks in the past, i bet they pick that kid from butler, just seems like a bird thing to do. when donnie walsh left, that was the beginning of the end.
and people in indiana don,t care about basketball like we used to either. let;s let them go, it is time.
it is also ironic and fitting that bird, an indiana guy, is the death of the pacers.
its sad, but what else can we do? wheres the owner, why doesnt he fire bird and o brien himself, if the dude doesnt care, then why should we?

You have to lose before you learn how to win. This season was never about W’s and L’s. They got their young players some playing time and it will pay dividends down the road. They just need to keep building through the draft and hope for the best.

A rough ride and now time for reflection. Hope decision making improves. Coaching remains a question mark. Not sure they can keep building solely on the draft. But hope springs eternal and the commentary on this site was certainly engaging, intelligent, and a thought provoking witness to long suffering Pacer fan frustration. Believing in a better future is the only choice for me! Will look for you in November. Happy summer!
