To be fair and honest about this you need to look at where Danny was as a player when he signed this extension. Just completed his 3rd year and brought his scoring averages from 7.5-13.9-19.6

Hadn't yet been an all star. Still had a season under contract and a season as a restricted free agent. So it was absolutely right at market cap at the time Danny signed it.

Bottom line is that Larry Bird bats below the "Mendoza Line" on his transaction swings. You really need to search hard to find positive things that Larry has done for the franchise.

The Larry doesn't suck because other GM's also suck, doesn't really make a compelling argument IMHO.

Saying that getting rid of the only other player on the Pacers to really do anything last year (Murphy) would somehow make the team BETTER is ludicrous and, for lack of a better term...retarded. "Theeen you would have: Hinrich, Dunleavy, Granger, Haslem/Landry, Hibbert. Bada-bing…Bada……Boom. Playoffs." Yeeeah...I'm gonna have to disagree. Short of a miracle that brings a future MVP here (Carmelo or Durant), the Pacers will have to hope and pray for a top 2 draft pick next year. THEN the rebuilding can truly begin. O'Brien needs to go, but give Bird the reins for a season while they look for a new coach.

I am shocked the Pacers would ever move Danny. His contract proves how UN-selfish he really is! I do agree with the fans that Larry and O'brian got to go or shape up. Drafting Danny Granger's twin minus defense add explosive athletic-ness is terrible. They passed on Blair...Mistake and they passed on James Anderson. They need to package Murphy and Rush together and get a PG. Maybe they could even try to trade Murphy, Rush, and Jones to the Wizards for Hinrich(A true Point Gaurd) and Javale Mcgee(could a great backup PF/C) and sign and trade for Randy Foye. That could give the pacers a starting 5 of Hinrich, Foye, Dunleavy, Granger, Hibbert or Hinrich, Dunleavy, Granger, Hansborough, Hibbert. Heck the pacers could make a play for for Carl Landy and or Haslem(a free agent) and the kings are a bit overloaded with thompson, whiteside, cousins, may, dalembert, and the target "Landry". Theeen you would have: Hinrich, Dunleavy, Granger, Haslem/Landry, Hibbert. Bada-bing...Bada......Boom. Playoffs.

A very good point. I don't know why so many Pacers fans are ready to dump Danny, when he's so good and his contract is quite reasonable. There's no way you match anything near his production at anything near his salary.

The only bigger bargain that comes immediately to mind is Rajon Rondo.

And I think Lamarcus Aldridge makes almost as much as Danny, but I'd have to look it up. So there are players that aren't even his peers making almost as much. Not to mention Eddy Curry.
