Roy Hibbert Named to Eastern Conference All Star Reserves

Congratulations to Roy Hibbert for being named to the Eastern Conference All Star team. Hibbert has been the most consistent performer for an Indiana Pacer team that has won 17 of their first 25 games. Hibbert joins Miami’s Chris Bosh, Chicago’s Luol Deng, Philly’s Andre Iguodala, Atlanta’s Joe Johnson, Boston’s Paul Pierce, and New Jersey’s Deron Williams for the Eastern Reserves.

Though many were predicting a spot for Hibbert, who is averaging almost 14 points and 10 rebounds, it was not a lock. Second-year Piston Greg Monroe offered serious competition by posting a 16 & 10 line. At the end, the coaches selected Roy, a good thing for both the player and the Pacers.

Hibbert, who was drafted with the 17th pick in 2008, becomes only the fourth player taken at #17 since the ABA Merger in 1977 to become an All Star. The other three have ties to Indiana, as well. Shawn Kemp was a high school star at Concord, while both Jermaine O’Neal and Danny Granger earned their All Star berths while wearing the Blue-and-Gold.

Congratulations should also go out to Larry Bird, who selected both Danny Granger and Roy Hibbert (after acquiring the pick from Toronto in the Jermaine O’Neal trade.)

congrats Roy . you won me over i just wish you were a little more aggressive. The Pacers deserved to have a player on the team, even though Stern would prefer if both roosters only had players from L.A N.Y Miami or any big market team.
