that Hibbert elbow was MWP style! a beauty straight to the noggin (although i suppose it hurt Harden more because he actually has something in there)

You have to make choices in defense. You can't just shut everyone down, it doesn't work that way. No one has 5 Lebrons on their team. The choice was to leave Big Baby wide open and everyone else stay on the 3pt shooters. No rotations means no gap on the perimeter where the Magic do their damage. No rotations means Roy can patrol the paint and prevent penetration. We've been killed by pick n' pop bigs all year because we've asked Roy to come out of the paint where his lack of speed is magnified. Now we're doing it right. Let Davis take 19ft jump shots. He's not going to score 50, and he's not going to win the game by himself. I garuantee he's not used to hoisting that many jumpers, and his arms will be rubber by the 3rd quarter.

The commentary last night also made a point I hadn't considered - by letting Davis have those shots you were preventing the big 3-point shooters from getting the ball and getting hot. Essentially, knowing some member of the Magic is going to go off on any given night, choose the 2-pointer over the 3-pointer.

Obviously the best choice is to shut it all down, but I think that is not only impractical with our roster it is particularly difficult to do at the 3-pt line, where the arc of the shot is too high to easily alter and the good shooters only need a half a step or a couple of feet of space to get the ball up.
