Every NBA Team is talking and chasing and trading for key people in the free agent market and i have not seen nor heard if the pacers are talking to anybody beside Hornet center Kaman. Nash, jamal, lee, roy,are off the market. Pacers please make a move on a free agent or trade someone or bring back reggie miller the only superstar who put indy on the map. AND why do we draft half heart bums sry my feeling, Probably wont make the playoff an if so it will be the last 8 th seed. We overpay Hill who could not guard magic nelson in the playoff nor wade so im lil confused on that one. Sry let Hibbet walk to a team who will not make the playoff anyways let him get the big day but he wont get no ring that for sure with portland. At least with the Pacers he got a shot.

bforsythe: How incredibly fortunate for you that you can take something that you loved and cast it away when it no longer pleases you. To suggest Herb Simon treats the Pacers like a toy is not only offensive and ignorant its just plain wrong. I am sorry if thats the way the Blazers owner treats his team, but i doubt you care. You can just go buy a new boat, right. Good luck

gregor t - Growing up my family owned a small ski boat. Nothing special or luxurious, but it was awesome. Sure, it cost a lot of money to maintain, but it was worth it. The exhilirating feeling of cruising along the Columbia river, wind blowing through our hair, and the countless summers water skiing on the Snake river were more than worth it.

As we got older and my sister and I became more invloved in school activities, summer league sports, and our own social schedules, we had little use for the boat. Finally, my dad put out an ad in the Oregonian (this was before craigslist) and sold the boat. He made noe profit, actually ended up losing money in the process.

This relates to you comment in that, what most fans don't get is that these franchises, to their wealthy owners, are incredibly expensive toys. Not a means of making money.

I agree, well written piece. And, in a fair and just business world, Herb would be a great example on how to conduct ones self. Unfortunately, it is not a fair and just world. We live in the land of high expectations, limited opportunities to meet those expectations, short memories and very little patience.

Whatever you need to do, that is deemed ethical and within the rules of the organization in which you are operating, must be done to obtain said results.

As far as the comments made by Batumn's agent, most of us in Portland believe it is just him trying to coerce the Blazers into making a premature commitment in favor of his client, nothing more. Dwight Jaynes is the only person in Portland who I have read that supports his claims as probable. Even Batum himself has refuted the statements on twitter.

At the end of the day, in the NBA, you are either moving toward or away from a championship. The Blazers seem to be doing everything they can to get back into contention as soon as possible, even if that means simultaneously depolying conflicting strategies (which actually makes sense as they are on the opposite side of the table in each situation).

Good luck to you, Pacers fans. I know one thing, at the end of the Hibbert negotiation, one side is going to be left losing out on a great young player and, by all accounts, young man.

Game on.

Jared, i think you just explained why the NBA lockout cost the league almost half a season and the NFL lockout was ended before any games were lost. The NBA owners just don't like each other and don't care about whats good for the game going forward. They want the immediate return, pay me now satisfaction of winning, profits, league be damned style of dealing. The NFL owners say "We are making billions? Right! I can build a team with that!" And teams like Detroit and Cinncinnati are coming up! If the owner of the Heat cant make a profit from his Superstar line-up winning the NBA Championship, tell me, please tell me why he even owns the team? Or is he just a sorry businessman?
