Danny Granger “Out Indefinitely” with Sore Left Knee

Breaking news reported by @Pacers on Twitter.

 

 

That presumably means he will not be playing in the team’s 2012-13 season opener tomorrow in Toronto. Worse still, in addition to noting what happened to the Knicks’ Amaré Stoudemire after he got a second opinion recently on his knee (he will miss the first six weeks of the season), Mike Wells of the Indianapolis Star just reported the following.

 

 

No confirmation for this, but I would presume Gerald Green starts in his place on Wednesday, which while disappointing would give fans the opportunity to watch high fliers Green and Paul George man the wings. Pretty crappy silver lining, I suppose.

In actual good news, George Hill is at least scheduled to play despite missing the entire preseason.

    This is a tough loss, but this year they’re more equipped to handle such an event. Gerald Green and Sam Young should step in nicely, and allow us to see the scoring touch that PG has been working on.

    The Pacers can still win the Central Division and be the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the East. The important thing is to have Danny ready at the end of the year.

    wonder if this will turn out to be a George Hill/Darren Colison thing, where Green plays so long and well Danny has a rough time knocking him out of the starting line up when his knee gets better?

    PG at SF and Green at SG sounds pretty good. I know it won’t happen though.

    Well, at least this season isn’t as compact as last year’s so missing a couple weeks won’t mean missing almost as many games as days. Still, quite discouraging coming into the year. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery. At least we have some ok answers for short-term “replacement.”

    The ideal situation here is that Danny is out 4-6 weeks and comes back at full strength, while we get a chance to experiment with some of the new players and see who can really contribute in extended playing time. Will also give George a chance to play SF full time. Will make the team stronger in the long run.
    Danny is notorious for his slow starts. If he can come back ready to go and doesn’t need to play himself into the season, we won’t miss too much. Worst case is that this is a lingering situation all season.
