Post-Game Grades: Pacers Defense Blankets Knicks
There are no mysterious forces at play here. The Pacers have beaten the two best teams in the East in the past three days by doing what they do. Neither Miami nor New York reached 80 points, and the Knicks scored just 30 points in the first and fourth quarters combined.
It certainly wasn’t pretty tonight. The Pacers shot a frightful 39.2% from the floor and scored just 96.4 points per 100 possessions. It says something that they won easily despite those weak offensive numbers since the Knicks’ stats were even worse. Paul George’s 6 steals were big and the team’s stalwart ability to force their opponent into low-percentage shots is just something we take for granted at this point.
It’s fun to watch even though, ya know, in other ways, it’s not that fun to watch.
|David West, PF 34 MIN | 3-11 FG | 0-0 FT | 5 REB | 2 AST | 6 PTS | -8
His slump is becoming a concern. He has now made just 19 of his last 64 shots (29.7%).
|Paul George, SF 44 MIN | 10-24 FG | 2-2 FT | 11 REB | 5 AST | 24 PTS | +4
I would write more about how well he played for much of the game but he just stole my keyboard.
|Roy Hibbert, C 19 MIN | 1-4 FG | 2-4 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 4 PTS | -3
Missed a lot of the game with back spasms but had one huge block of a Tyson Chandler dunk attempt at a key moment. Seemed to enliven the Pacers and it was all doldrums offense from the Knicks after that.
|George Hill, PG 34 MIN | 2-6 FG | 1-1 FT | 4 REB | 4 AST | 6 PTS | +10
Hopefully he gets some chicken soup and turns back into himself soon.
|Lance Stephenson, SG 36 MIN | 3-6 FG | 2-2 FT | 7 REB | 4 AST | 9 PTS | -7
Nice little game. Active when he needed to be without mucking things up too much by over-iso-ing
|Tyler Hansbrough, PF 14 MIN | 1-8 FG | 4-4 FT | 4 REB | 0 AST | 6 PTS | +13
Active and meaningful even if he missed everything.
|Jeff Pendergraph, PF 9 MIN | 2-5 FG | 2-2 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 6 PTS | 0
Who was that masked man?
|Gerald Green, SF 17 MIN | 3-8 FG | 0-0 FT | 6 REB | 1 AST | 7 PTS | +13
Nice work aside from that time he stepped out of bounds. Still some of the bad stuff that makes you wonder, but made 2 of his 3 two-point attempts.
|Ian Mahinmi, C 20 MIN | 6-7 FG | 1-1 FT | 6 REB | 0 AST | 13 PTS | +8
Can’t ask for anything more.
|D.J. Augustin, PG 14 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 PTS | -5
Could ask for more things.
|Frank VogelGot some good national attention for his toothbrush trick.|
