Paul George Hits Silly Step-Back Three in Transition After Roy Hibbert Save
This was maybe the funnest play in the funnest 24 minutes the Pacers have played so far this season. Against the Hawks, from the start of the second quarter to the end of the third, the Pacers were scoring any way they wanted. This play, for example, is ridiculous.
A 7’2″ guy falls out of bounds and lofts the ball towards his offensive zone then the team’s All-Star swoops into to pick it up and races down court. Paul George is cut off, however, so he does the teammate-y thing and gives the ball up to the 4’5″ DJ Augustin, who quickly throws the ball back to seemingly remind Indiana that they have the cheat code enabled. George remembers. So he dribbles backwards to give himself a harder shot. Bonus: It’s worth more points.
Of course, he makes it and then — note this Hoosiers too lazy/cheap to go watch this team play live — goes out of his way to give like 30 fans a high five. Plus Orlando Johnson, who was making shots almost as silly as this in the second quarter.
We know what happend in the fourth, but at this moment in time, the Pacers were the best basketball team in the history of the sport.
