8 Points, 9 Seconds is the ESPN TrueHoop Network affiliate devoted to covering the Indiana Pacers basketball franchise. When we launched, in July 2009, we named ourselves this as an homage to Reggie Miller’s legendary (or infamous, for you Knick fans) performance one evening in Madison Square Garden.

With his team seemingly moments from defeat, he took the team’s fate into his own hands, hitting two three pointers and two free throws in a flash to secure Indiana an improbable victory and push an otherwise ordinary playoff game into the makings of one of sports’ greatest rivalries. The 8.9 seconds it took Miller to score eight points transformed the franchise from a doormat to a perennial contender.

It was without question the most important 8.9 seconds of the Pacers’ time in the NBA. And we always try to cover the team with this knowledge in mind: a team’s entire history can be re-written in the blink of an eye.

We report today’s news, analyze yesterday’s games and discuss the future while reveling in the ABA titles, Market Square memories and Fieldhouse beginnings.
